His career debuted with the Boston Consulting Group. He joined Porsche in 1999 and worked for the company until 2004, with his responsibilities including, among others, strategic projects, marketing planning and marketing strategy. From 2004 to June 2010, he worked for Daimler AG, with the most recent position being Director of Strategy for Mercedes-Benz Cars. He also collaborated with Renault-Nissan for matters related to e-mobility. In 2010, Dr. Gruner became the managing director of the Automotive Institute for Management at the European Business School. After that, he joined Porsche as the Vice President of Marketing.
